Our verdict

Raindrip’s container kit is the only drip kit on our list with a timer in the box, so pots, planters and hanging baskets water themselves from the first day. The analog timer screws onto the faucet, takes two AA batteries (not included) and is set with dials: one for how often, one for how long, and a third for a manual run of 3 to 90 minutes or a rain delay of 24 to 72 hours. Behind it run 75 ft of 1/4 in supply tubing and twenty pressure-compensating drippers at 1/2 gph each, with tees, elbows and stakes.

What this version leaves out matters. It has no pressure regulator and no filter (Raindrip puts those in the R561DP, in place of the timer), Raindrip states no pressure range for the kit or the timer, and we found no timer manual online. Cover is Raindrip’s one-year guarantee: a free replacement if a product breaks, with the buyer paying shipping. It is our container pick in the best drip irrigation kits; compare it in the drip kit comparison.

Setting it up

Connect the timer to the outdoor faucet and the supply tubing to the timer. Cut the tubing where a pot needs water and rejoin it with a tee, push a dripper’s barbed end into the line and stake it near the plant, then fold the end of the line and close it with the end clamp. Raindrip suggests one dripper for a container under about 1 ft across, two or more for bigger ones, and one every 12 to 18 in along a planter box. One faucet can feed up to 75 ft of this tubing and 15 gph in all; the twenty drippers in the box add up to 10 gph. A Y connector under the timer runs a second kit.

With no regulator, the 1/4 in fittings see your full household pressure. Raindrip doesn’t publish a limit, so if a gauge shows high pressure, ask Raindrip or choose the R561DP version. The parts list has no backflow device either: check that the faucet has a vacuum breaker and ask your water utility what it requires (our backflow preventer guide explains the devices). Raindrip suggests starting with watering once a day or every two days, then checking the soil about 3 in down and adjusting.

Winter and where to buy

Before temperatures reach freezing, take the timer off the faucet, remove its batteries so they don’t corrode and store it somewhere cool and dry; open the line ends to drain the tubing. Our winterizing guide has the rest. Raindrip has no shop of its own. True Value lists the exact model, but its price loads by script, so our offer is a link to check the price there. We found no Canadian seller and no owner reviews we could read.

Raindrip R560DP questions

Does the Raindrip R560DP come with a timer?

Yes: Raindrip’s analog battery hose-end timer, sold on its own as the R675CT. It takes two AA batteries, which are not included, and has garden hose threads top and bottom. If you would rather have a pressure regulator and filter than a timer, Raindrip sells the same container kit with those as the R561DP.

How many plants can the R560DP water?

Up to 20 with the parts in the box, at one 1/2 gph dripper each. Raindrip suggests two or more drippers for containers wider than about 1 ft, so big pots use them up faster. One faucet can feed up to 75 ft of this tubing and 15 gph of drippers, which is 30 drippers at 1/2 gph; extras come in packs of ten (PC2010B).

Can the R560DP water a lawn or garden beds?

No. Raindrip says its kits are not meant for lawns, and this one is sized for containers: 1/4 in tubing and a 15 gph limit per faucet. For beds and rows, a kit with a 1/2 in main line suits better, such as the DIG ML50 or the DripWorks garden bed kit.
