Our verdict
The Pro-HC is Hunter’s touchscreen Wi-Fi controller, sold with 6, 12 or 24 fixed stations in indoor and outdoor versions. This page covers the indoor 12-station model (PHC-1200I), which runs from a plug-in 24 VAC transformer. A wizard on the screen joins your Wi-Fi network, then you manage the controller through a Hydrawise account in Hunter’s app or on its website.
Its case over most homeowner controllers is monitoring. Two sensor inputs take rain, soil or other contact sensors and Hydrawise flow meters, and with a meter fitted Hydrawise can alert you to a broken pipe or head. Current sensing across the zones flags wiring faults, short-circuit protection trips at 800 mA, and two solenoids may share one zone. Programs, clock and calendar stay in memory through a power cut with no battery. The Hydrawise Home plan is free for up to three controllers, and Hunter quotes a two-year warranty.

Sensors and flow meters
Rain, soil moisture and other open or closed contact sensors wire between SEN-1 or SEN-2 and the sensor common, then are set up in the app. Hydrawise flow meters come in 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 and 2 in sizes, wired or wireless, rated up to 21, 34, 88 and 132 gpm, and work only with Hunter’s touchscreen controllers. Pick a meter sized for your supply line; our guide to measuring water pressure and flow shows how to find your flow. The paid Enthusiast plan adds text-message alerts, up to five users and five controllers, and 365 days of reports instead of 30.
Before you buy
Our only US seller showed the PHC-1200I out of stock when we checked, and Hunter’s own website refuses our requests, so we couldn’t check Hunter’s current lineup. Confirm stock and the exact model number before planning around it. In Canada, the seller we could read lists the outdoor Pro-HC (PHC-1200), not this indoor version. The indoor unit is not water or weather resistant; the outdoor model has a built-in transformer that Hunter says a licensed electrician should connect under local codes. Hunter’s Hydrawise spec page and a retailer disagree on whether the Pro-HC takes expansion modules, so plan on the 12 stations it comes with. We found no owner reviews of the Pro-HC on sites we can read, so there is no owner summary here.

Hunter Pro-HC Hydrawise Wi-Fi Controller (12-station, indoor) questions
Do I have to pay for Hydrawise?
Not for ordinary home use. Hunter’s free Home plan covers up to three controllers and one user, with app alerts and 30 days of reports. The paid Enthusiast plan adds text-message alerts, up to five users and five controllers, and 365 days of reports, which mostly matters if several people manage the system or you want a long history.
Can the indoor Pro-HC be mounted outside?
No. Hunter says the indoor Pro-HC is not water or weather resistant. For an outside wall, Hunter makes an outdoor Pro-HC with a built-in transformer in a weather-resistant cabinet, and its mains connection should be made by a licensed electrician following local codes. Indoors, the plug-in transformer’s two yellow wires go to the 24AC screws and its green wire to GND.
How do I wire a Hydrawise flow meter to the Pro-HC?
Connect the meter’s blue wire to SEN-1 or SEN-2 and its white wire to SEN COM; the red wire is not connected. Then add the meter in the Hydrawise app so it can send flow alerts for broken pipes or heads. Hydrawise meters work only with Hunter’s touchscreen controllers, such as the Pro-HC.
What happens to my schedule in a power cut?
It is kept. Hunter says the Pro-HC stores its programs, clock and calendar in non-volatile memory, so there is no backup battery to buy or replace. Nothing waters while the mains power is off, so after a long outage it is worth checking the controller is back online in the Hydrawise app.
